Abstract: Autophagy plays an important role in sustaining the survival of cardiomyocytes during aging process. Regulating autophagy will contribute to the elimination of impaired mitochondria and other harmful metabolites within cardiomyocytes, which relieves oxidative stress ,sustains the survival of cardiomyocytes and reduces cell apoptosis. Activation of autophagy may serve as an effective way for rescuring cardiomyocyte aging.
