Abstract: Infants born small-for-gestational-age have high rates of mortality and morbidity in perinatal period, high risk of metabolic syndrome in adult. However, there is a lack of consensus about the diagnosis and treatment of small-for-gestational age in China. We make a literature review of the definition, risk factors, growth hormone therapy, evaluation before and after growth hormone therapy, short-time and long-time complications of small-for-gestational-age in all the clinical practice guideline and expert consensus available all over the world, aiming at providing useful information in clinical practice.
