Abstract: Autophagy is a protective mechanism for eukaryotes to maintain homeostasis. Meanwhile, it plays an important role in maintaining the survival and energy metabolism of tumor cells, and also have some impacts on the therapeutic effect of liver cancer through different mechanisms, for example autophagy maintains liver cells homeostasis, causes drug resistance of liver cancer cells. The autophagy inhibitors or natural extracts play a role of resistance to liver cancer through autophagy pathways. It is a great significance to study the regulation mechanisms of autophagy in the prevention and treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma.

Key words: autophagy, hepatocellular carcinoma, therapy, autophagy related gene
