Abstract: Androgens play an important role in male spermatogenesis. These steroid hormones function through binding to intracellular androgen receptors(ARs).The abnormality of structure and function of ARs may influence spermatogenesis. To obtain a better insight into molecular mechanisms of ARs in various testicular cells and its impact on spermatogenesis, several testicular cell type-specific AR knockout mouse models have been generated and this rview summaries studies using these animal models.
