Abstract: In the United States, the main channel to produce geriatricians is geriatric fellowship training in internal medicine, family medicine, and psychiatry. Qualifications for a fellow, contents of training, and competency requirement are clearly defined. China’s education and health governmental sectors should join hand to work on top-level design for the education and training of geriatricians and establish pathway to produce geriatricians in fellowship training programs. Furthermore, certification system and continuing medical education for geriatricians should be improved. The improvement of system design is capable of laying solid basis for the production of geriatricians.
