Abstract: Liver barrier functions as a main structure to protect the liver from exogenous harmful substances and play an important role in maintaining secretion function, regulating bile transport and intercellular information transmission. Liver barrier protein alteration and barrier dysfunction can be induced by endotoxin, inflammatory cytokines and bile acids, which may be involved in the occurrence of colitis-related liver diseases. To explore the outcomes and underlying mechanism of intestinal inflammation on liver barrier function may support the understanding of pathogenesis of colitis-related liver diseases and thus provide clues and basic information for the prevention and treatment of colitis-related liver diseases.

Key words: colitis, liver barrier, endotoxin, bile acids, inflammatory cytokines
