Abstract: Medical institutions in China are normally divided into nonprofit and for-profit, so such oversimplified dichotomy classification is failed to define the boundaries and responsibilities of different types of medical institutions and perfect health care system and its efficiency. In this article, a new classification "Three Categories and Four types" of medical institutions is proposed.
