AbstractOBJECTIVE To investigate the antioxidant ability and immune adjustment function of Sanguis Draconis flavones (SDF) on D-galactose aging in rats.METHODS The healthy SD rats were randomly divided into 6 groups: blank control group, aging model group, positive control group, low-dose, medium-dose and high-dose of SDF groups. Aging model was induced by subcutaneously injecting rats with 5% D-galactose. Rats of each group received daily administration by gavage for 6 weeks and the rats were weighted once per week in experimental period. The thymus and spleen index were measured; meanwhile, the contents of MDA, PC, AGES and the activity of SOD, GSH-PX in serum were detected after the experiment. The contents of LF, LPO and MAO-B activity in brain tissue were detected by ELISA method; the ultrastructural changes of brain tissue were observed by transmission electron microscopy.RESULTS Compared with the normal group, rat subacute aging model was replicated successfully; high-dose and medium-dose of SDF can significantly increase the thymus and spleen index of rats. high-dose of SDF can significantly decrease the contents of MDA, PC, AGES and increase the activity of SOD, GSH-PX; high-dose and medium-dose of SDF can reduce the LF, LPO contents and MAO-B activity in brain tissue. In addition, high-dose and medium-dose of SDF can improve the degeneration of neurons in rat brain.CONCLUSION SDF has obvious anti-aging effect on aging rats, which may be related to the antioxidant and the influence of neurotransmitters.
