Abstract
OBJECTIVE To study the contents of the effective component-ferulic acid in Siwutang and in other decoctions composed of one or more ingredients of Siwutang. METHODS The contents of ferulic acid were determined by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography. RESULTS The ferulic acid contents in the decoction of angelica sinensis and the decoction of ligusticum chuanxiong were 0.518mgg-1and 1.215 mgg-1,respectively;they varied from 0.375 mgg-1to 1.761 mgg-1among Siwutang and the decoctions composed of two or three ingredients. CONCLUSION The content of ferulic acid in the decoction composed of angelica sinensis and ligusticum chuanxiong was the sum of that in the decoction of either of them;the contents of that decreasd in the decoctions combined with paeonia lactiflora and/or rehmannia glutinosa;the content of ferulic acid in Siwutang appeared to be moderate among all the relative decoctions.
