Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the bile acid-binding capacities between aluminum-magnesium hydroxycarbonate and sucralfate at different pH in vitro. METHODS An artificial gastrointestinal model was used. Different doses of aluminum-magnesium hydroxycarbonate and sucralfate were added to the mixtures of gastric juice and bile juice with pH values of 3,5 and 7,respectively,and then incubated at 37 bath for 1 h.A HPLC assay was developed for the determination of five components in bile acid and their remain contents after incubation and adsorption. RESULTS The assay developed here was accurate, specific and simple. The adsorption rates of each component were higher for aluminum-magnesium hydroxycarbonate than those of sucralfate at all of the pH values studied,so did the total adsorption rates. CONCLUSIONS:It demonstrated that the net-like structure gel of aluminum-magnesium hydroxycarbonate had considerable advantages in respect of bile acid-consuming capacity. It may play a major role in treatment of patients with gastro-esophageal reflux disease.
