Abstract: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a functional gastrointestinal disease, and its diagnostic criteria has been based on clinical profile. There are various biomarkers associated with IBS.This paper reviews the relationship between IBS and those biomarkers like mean platelet volume (MPV), red blood cell distribution width (RDW), neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (HS-CRP), C-reactive protein (CRP), resolvin D1 (RvD1), interleukin 6 (IL-6), interleukin 8(IL-8), tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α), fecal calprotectin (FCP), fecal lactoferrin (LF).The research and clinical application of valuable biomarkers for the diagnosis of IBS may make the diagnosis of IBS more accurate and faster, with less application of colonoscopy.
