Changes in iodine nutritional status can directly mediate the occurrence of insulin resistance, affect glucose and lipid metabolism and the regulation of blood pressure and also, may contribute to the pathogenesis of Mets by regulating thyroid function. Exploring the role of iodine in the occurrence and development of Mets can provide new ideas for the prevention and treatment of Mets.
