Exploration of case-based teaching in endocrinology and metabolism continuing medical education

Abstract: As an efficient teaching model, case-based teaching (CBT) takes the case as a center issue and the teacher introduces the classic case in the teaching process and explains it in combination with the theory. This method is conducive to deepen the students' understanding of the pathological knowledge and stimulates students' learning enthusiasm with clear targets. Endocrinology and metabolism are important branches of clinical medicine. With the rapid development of knowledge in the field of endocrinology and metabolism, the demand of continuing medical education is growing. The traditional course of continuing medical education is based on a one-way teaching mode. The application of CBT can be inspired and guided by teachers. Through classroom discussions and other forms peer education, it helps the student to better understand medical knowledge . At the same time, it also helps to broaden students' knowledge, improve their capacity building on analysis, problem solving,critical thinking, innovation and self-regulated learning. The application of CBT in continuing teaching of endocrinology and metabolism can significantly improve the teaching quality and learning outcomes of the trainees with more academic resources.
