Exploring online teaching of stomatology in eight-year program of clinical medicine

Abstract: Objective To explore the application of online teaching in the education of stomatology for medical students of eight-year program and evaluate the outcomes. Methods A total of 106 students from the eight-year program (enrolled in 2013 and 2014) in Peking Union Medical College applied online teaching of stomatology and a questionnaire-based research was conducted. Results The online teaching of stomatology was carried out smoothly and 77.8% of the students thought that online teaching had achieved the same learning outcome of traditional teaching, 66.7% of the students hoped to continue online teaching in the future. Most students thought 90-120 minutes was suitable for each course. The average score of teaching feedback was (90.1±8.2).But 60.3% of students preferred to a traditional off-line teaching. There were weakness of online teaching that were found. Conclusions On line teaching can guarantee the teaching quality for the medical students, but still has some defects.
