Assessment of diagnostic test training of clinical epidemiology in eight-year clinical medical undergraduate students

Abstract: Objective To investigate the key issues and puzzling points in the field of diagnosis test teaching. Methods 89 sixth grade students of eight-year clinical medicine program of the Chinese academy of medical sciences (CAMS) and Peking Union Medical College (PUMC) attended the clinical epidemiology course in January 2017, who were asked to read and evaluate a published diagnostic paper in eight key points of diagnostic test according textbook and given the writing answers, which has been scored. Results 51.7% ~ 100.0% of the students provided a clear answer to the questions and provided the evidences; For eight key points being evaluated, the proportions of right answers were 36.4% ~ 75.3%, the wrong answers were 12.4% ~ 50.0% and the uncertainty were 4.6% ~ 25.8%. The average score of 89 students was 44.04?15.07, and the average score of male and female students were 40.48?14.10, 45.96?15.35, respectively. Conclusions The comprehension of diagnostic test is not enough and precise for eight-year clinical medicine program students, and such training should be strengthened.
