Investigation on the current state of sonographers in Tibet Autonomous Region

Abstract: Objective To investigate the current state and training need of ultrasonographers in Tibet autonomous region. Methods This was a cross-sectional survey of sonographers in all medical units in Tibet autonomous region, which is taken in May 2018. The examiners' confidence and training needs were scored. Results A total of 144 valid questionaires was gained. Few sonographers in Tibet autonomous region can perform interventional ultrasound, abdominal vascularity, transvaginal gynaecological scan, echocardiography, carotid and extremity vascularity independently. They have a moderate degree of confidence in performing the ultrasound examination, and a high degree of training needs. Conclusions There is a shortage of sonographers in Tibet autonomous region. Targeted training in ultrasound should be carried out.
