Parallel approach in clinical and research capacity development for medical students in the era of precision medicine

Abstract: Precision medicine, as a new medical philosophy, directs the development of life science in the future, yet unknown to clinicians at large. This calls for them to correct understand, and learn how to apply in practice. As analyzed in the paper, precision medicine requires the competencies of medical students as follows: capability to take care of both clinical work and research; teamwork and leadership; as well as innovation and humanisticspirit. The authors recommend such measures as physician teacher training, multidisciplinary teamwork and teaching rounds, as well as the tutorial and co-supervisor practices. These measures can help the medical students to learn clinical abilities, and take command of the research thinking and methodology of research.
