Abstract: Amphiregulin is the ligand of epidermal growth factor receptor. The synthesis of amphiregulin is regulated by endogenous and exogenous stimuli. Amphiregulin is expressed in a variety of tissues and takes part in series of physiological process, including mammary gland development, embryo implantation, bone formation, axon growth, keratinocyte proliferation, female reproductive system development, the branching and tubulogenesis processes oflung, kidney, and prostate, spermatogenesis, development of neuronal and bonetissues, the maintenance of immune function.
