Research progress of dioscin in prevention and treatment of primary osteoporosis

Abstract: Dioscin has strong anti infection, anti-virus, lipid-lowering, anti-cancer, hypoglycemic, antithrombotic, anti-aging and liver protective activities. It can protect cardiac cells from ischemia/reperfusion injury by delaying oxidative stress, and become one of the complementary and alternative clinical drugs for the treatment of coronary heart disease and angina pectoris. In recent years, studies have shown that dioscin can prevent osteoporosis(OP) by inhibiting RANKL induced osteoclast differentiation and promoting osteoblast differentiation. This paper reviews the research progress of dioscin in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis in the aspects of inhibiting osteoclasts, promoting osteogenesis and related signaling pathways, in order to provide ideas for the development of a nutrition-medicine hybyrid strategy in the prevention and treatment of OP.
