Abstract: Objective To investigate personnel structure, staff’s job satisfaction and training needs at two community health centers in Daqing city. Methods A questionnaire-based survey was conducted among staff members in JY and YW community health centers in Daqing city. Results Forty-nine participants (92.5%) completed the survey. More than 90% of the respondents have received at least one time of continuing education which was mainly pertaining to medical or nursing techniques. However, more than half of the participants reported that training in health education and psychology were most needed currently for their professional capacity. More than 95% of the respondents were satisfied with the doctor/nurse-patient relationship; about 84% were satisfied with well-established standards for their practice and the supportive policies offered by government for the community health centers. Nevertheless nearly half of the respondents were not satisfied with resources of equipment and staffing, salaries and staff benefits. Compared to nurse, fewer physician and administrative staff expressed satisfaction. Staff working in the communities longer was less satisfied with the working environment than those working shorter. Conclusion Health education and psychology should be emphasized in continuing education for staff in community health centers. Improvement in benefits may improve staff’s job satisfaction.
