Protective Effect of Breviscapine on Hepatic Injury Induced by Anti-Tubercular Drugs in Mice and Its Mechanism

Abstract

OBJECTIVE To investigate the protective effect of breviscapine on hepatic injury induced by anti-tubercular drugs in mice and its mechanism. METHODS Forty rats were randomly divided into 5 groups （control，model，huganpian，high and low breviscapine）. Oral isoniazid and rifampicin were simultaneously administered in mice except control group.After 2 h，normal saline was administered in control and model groups，huganpian and breviscapine were administered respectively in other groups once a day for 2 weeks. The liver index，level of alanine transaminase （ALT） in serum，content of MDA，activity of SOD in liver homogenate，and hepatic morphology were determined. RESULTS Breviscapine and huganpian significantly decreased the liver index，level of ALT in serum and content of MDA and increased the activity of SOD.Pathology examination showed that breviscapine evidently alleviated the degeneration and necrosis of hepatic cells.CONCLUSION Breviscapine has a protective effect on hepatic injury induced by anti-tubercular drugs in mice.One of the mechanisms of hepatic protection may be related to the antioxidative function.
