Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the identification of the Chinese herbal drug "Baoyejuanbai"(Selaginella delicatula and its variable type).METHODS Several methods(including morphology,histology,TLC and NIR) were used to determine the pharmacognostical characters. RESULTS The morphological and histological observations indicated that the variable type of Selaginella delicatula,owned small and stable differences.Some extremely special histological characters,such as air chambers,cross-bridge and polystele,were observed in their stem.The diversity of color depth of chromatogram spots between the two sorts of samples was obtained by TLC.Moreover,there were certain differences in second derivative near-infrared spectra of the two samples.CONCLUSION The results provide scientific basis for the identification of Selaginella delicatula and suggeste that the variable type should be treated as a variety.
