OBJECTIVE To determine the residues of organochlorine pesticide in Fructus Trichosanthis, in order to develop the quality standards of Fructus Trichosanthis METHODS The residues of 4 isomers of benzene hexachloride (BHC), 4 isomers of dichloro-diphenyl trichloroethane (DDT) and pentachloro nitrobenzene (PCNB) were determined by gas chromatography RESULTS The residue contents of total BHC, total DDT and PCNB were 2.86～21.85, 2.86～50.04 and below 4.94 μg·kg^-1 respectively CONCLUSION The residues of organochlorine pesticide in Fructus Trichosanthis were lower than the permissible maximum limits of our national standard. The organochlorine pesticide residues in commercial samples were higher than that in crude drugs. It is suggested that we should try to avoid some pollution of organochlorine pesticides in the course of storage and transportation.
