Abstract
OBJECTIVE To study the actions of sodium dimercaptopropanesulfonate(DMPS) against convulsions induced by tetraethylenedisulfotetramine(TET) in acutely poisoned animals.METHODS The 97% of convulsant dose(CD97) of TET poisoned mice were determined and the death number of TET poisoned rat was noted after ip administration of DMPS.The behavior of TET poisoned rabbits was observed after iv administration of DMPS.The behavior and electroencephalogram (EEG) of TET poisoned rats were observed after intracerebroventricular administration of traces of DMPS.RESULTS Peripheral administration of trace DMPS effectively inhibited tetanic convulsion and significantly elevated CD97 and reduced the death number in acutely poisoned animals.Central administration of trace DMPS also significantly inhibited convulsive seizure, reduced the death number and inhibited the emergence of tetanic convulsion wave on EEG.CONCLUSION DMPS showed the marked anticonvulsive actions on acutely TET poisoned animals.
