OBJECTIVE To seek for some traditional Chinese medicine that can reverse bacterial drug resistance, in order to provide a new solution to the threat of super-drug resistance. METHODS Blackberrylily, Coptis, Radix Scutellariae, Rhubarb, and the compound prescription of Radix Scutellariae and Rhubarb(named double-yellow decoction 1), Coptis and Rhubarb(named double-yellow decoction 2), Radix Scutellariae, Rhubarb and Coptis (named three-yellow decoction),which is consisting of Coptis, Radix Scutellariae and Rhubarb, were selected, then the extracts were decocted. The bacterial resistance reversal test was developed on the basis of the MIC the extracts to Acinetobacter baumannii, subMIC as the work concentration. The MIC of ciprofloxacin was detected before and after cultured in medium containing extracts to evaluate whether the drug resistance reversed in bacteria. Then the bacteria plasmids were extracted and the electrophoresis map analyzed to identify whether some plasmids lost. RESULTS The reverse rate of Blackberrylily, Coptis, Radix Scutellariae, Rhubarb,double-yellow decoction 1,double-yellow decoction 2,three-yellow decoction was 4.2%, 2.8%, 6.9%, 6.9%,11.1%, 2.8% and 11.1%, respectively. The effect of double-yellow decoction 2 is more obvious. The relevance of plasmid was 33.3%, 100%, 0%, 20%, 75%, 50% and 25%,the effect of Coptis is more obvious. CONCLUSION The extract of Coptis and Rhubarb (double-yellow 1) is best for reversing bacterial drug resistance.
