OBJECTIVE To establish a RP-HPLC method for the determination of citric acid in Fructus Crataegi and Fructus Crataegi Preparatus, and to analyse the content of citric acid in samples collected from different regions. METHODS A Zorbax sbC18 (250 mm×4.6 mm,5μm) column was used with phosphate buffer solution (pH 3.0) as the mobile phase at a flow rate of 1.0 mL·min-1.The column temperature was 251 and the UV detection wavelength was 210nm. RESULTS The calibration curve for citric acid was in good linearity over the range of 0.79~15.96μg with the regression equation Y=3510.8 + 56 992.3X,r=0.999 9.The average recoveries of citric acid in Fructus Crataegi and Fructus Crataegi Preparatus were 103.4% and 98.8%,respectively.CONCLUSION The method is simple, sensitive and reproducible .
