OBJECTIVE To develop a RP-HPLC method for the identification of dexamethasone acetate in Sanqi powder. METHODS The analysis was performed on a ODS column, using the mobile phase composed of methanol-water gradual elution or acetonitrile-tetrahydrofuran-water (25:18:57). Hie detection wavelength was at 240 nm. RESULTS Dexamethasone acetate in Sanqi powder was identified by comparing the retention time, UV-spectra and peak purity. A satisfactory separation between dexamethasone acetate and other components was obtained. CONCLUSION This method appeared to be simple and specific. It provided an efficient way for the identification of dexamethasone acetate.
