Abstract
OBJECTIVE To include the water-soluble drug catalpol by novel vesicle formed by polyethylene glycol (PEG, Mn=2 000) and beta-cyclodextrin (-CD) based on the principle of molecular self-assembly. METHODS The morphologies and structures of the vesicles were characterized by means of transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Zeta potential analyzer, and laser particle size instrument. The water-soluble drug catalpol was included in the novel vesicle and the drug inclusion rate was determined by UV-Vis spectrophotometry.RESULTS The drug loaded niosomes were prepared successfully. The particle size distribution of the niosomes was around 110 nm, which was close to the level of nanometer vesicles; the Zeta potential was about -19 mV, illustrating the vesicle stability was good. In addition, the particle size and Zeta potential changed along with the change of vesicle concentration and pH value. The drug loading rate of the vesicle was around 52%. CONCLUSION This study establishes a new characterization system for drug loaded vesicles, and provides a reference for clusion of water soluble medicines.
