Abstract�� OBJECTIVE To study the antibacterial constituents of Pilea notata C.H.Wright. METHODS Compounds were isolated by silica gel, Sephadex LH-20 and recrystallisation based on antibacterial activity test, and the structures were identified by their physico-chemical properties and spectroscopic data. RESULTS Nine compounds were isolated and identified as sitosterone(1), cholesterol(2), stigmasterol(3), stigmast-7-en-3��-ol(4), emodin(5), apigenin(6), luteolin(7), luteoloside(8) and cosmosiin(9). Compounds 8 and 9 showed better potential inhibitory activity than the positive control gentamicin. CONCLUSION All of the compounds are isolated from this plant for the first time, among which compounds 8 and 9 have potential antibacterial activity.
