Abstract�� OBJECTIVE To evaluate the micromeritic properties of Parteck�j ODT to provide preliminary theoretical basis for the direct compression technology of orally disintegrating tablets (ODTs).METHODS Scanning electron micrograph and laser particle size analyzer were used to observe the appearance and particle size distribution. The angle of repose, flow velocity, Carr' index, tensile strength, and elastic recovery of Parteck�j ODT were also determined respectively to evaluate its micromeritic properties. Five model drugs for orally disintegrating tablets were selected for direct compression tableting, and the aspects of flow ability, compressibility and dilution potential were investigated. The standard deviation of tablet weight, friability, taste, disintegration time of the prepared ODTs and formability in tablet compression by Parteck�j ODT and physical mixtures were compared respectively. RESULTS The angles of repose, flow rates and Carr's indexes of Parteck�j ODT and physical mixtures were 37.66��, 2.934 8 gs-1, 19.12% and 32.33��, 3.302 7 gs-1, 12.28%, respectively. Although the flowability of Parteck�j ODT was marginally worse than its physical mixtures, the compressibility and compact ability of Parteck�j ODT were much better. The dilution potential of Parteck�j ODT was high for most of hydrophilic and hydrophobic drugs. CONCLUSION The ODTs prepared by Parteck�j ODT are superior to its physical mixtures in taste, disintegration time and difficulty of tablet compression. Parteck�j ODT is an excellent co-processed excipient, which is helpful for the promotion and improvement of the technological level of direct compression tableting of ODTs.
